Deep cleaning goes the extra mile when it comes to keeping your home in order. It’s not always possible to find the time to deep clean but when you do, you’ll notice your home looks much cleaner. You may even feel more confident about welcoming visitors,

If you’ve got the chance to deep clean your home, you may be wondering where to begin. Don’t worry- we’ve got you covered. Take a look at this simple deep cleaning checklist to get started.

When Should You Deep Clean?

Most people get into deep cleaning during springtime. Spring cleaning is ideal for decluttering and cleaning your home, especially if you have good weather and you can get jobs done in the sunshine. However, deep cleaning should be done more than once a year.

It will help you to keep your home clean and clutter-free if you can deep clean every season. The more people in your home, the messier it will get so deep cleaning will help you avoid having to spend all your spare time doing small cleaning jobs every weekend. If you have older children at home, consider giving some of the cleaning responsibilities to them.

What You Need to Clean

Cleaning shouldn’t cause too much expense. Many household items are ideal for cleaning throughout the whole house, including dish soap, white vinegar, baking soda, and microfibre cloths or a scrub brush. You may want to purchase items like an all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, bucket, spray bottle, and vacuum.

Additional items like a mop, broom, and steamer can help clean and kill bacteria. A simple cleaning solution is one cup of white vinegar mixed with one cup of water. This solution is fantastic for bringing up dirt and grime on tiles or hardwood floors.

Where to Start

Deep cleaning should be done room by room so you can keep track of what’s been done and not feel overwhelmed by the task. Moving from room to room while you’re cleaning could make the task seem impossible and endless. Here’s what you can do room by room.

Bathroom

Firstly, clean all the fixtures and scrub the grout. If you can’t scrub the grout clean, you may need to re-grout. If you can’t clean the fixtures with soap and water, try a paste made up of baking soda and water. Scrub this into the fixtures with a brush and rinse clean before using a microfibre cloth to shine.

You can clean your shower head by soaking it in vinegar and water overnight. Once you’ve done this, use a bathroom cleaner to deep clean your bath and remove any stains or grime. Finally, remove and wash your shower curtains in the washing machine in a safe setting.

Kitchen

Start with your cupboards before anything else as these can be the most time-consuming job. Empty the cupboards and use soap and water to clean the inside to remove any dirt or grease from spilled food items. Once you’ve cleaned inside the cupboards and put everything back, clean the cupboard doors.

You’ll then need to move on to your fridge. Remove everything from your fridge and turn off the power. Clean the fridge thoroughly with soap and water and try and clean underneath while the fridge is empty if you can.

Once you’ve replaced the food in the fridge, it’s time to tackle the bins. Any trash or recycling bins should be cleaned inside and out with warm soapy water. You can do this outside if it’s easier.

The last, and often most hated job, is cleaning the appliances. To clean your oven, it’s best to purchase an oven cleaner that you can leave to work while you get on with other jobs. Your dishwasher and microwave can be cleaned with a scrubbing brush and soapy water.

Go back to your oven when you’ve finished the rest of the kitchen and use a sponge and warm water to wipe away the oven cleaner. Any stains left over can be removed with baking soda, water, and a toothbrush.

Bedroom

Strip your bedroom of linens, including bed sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, and curtains. Flip your mattress and freshen up with a spray bottle of essential oil and water. Vacuum the floor, including underneath the bed if you can move it.

Remove everything from your closet and drawers so you can wipe them clean. As you replace your clothes, you can take the opportunity to organize them.

Living Room

Vacuum carpet and upholstery and mop hardwood floor. Remove cushion covers for washing and wipe down the furniture. It can help if your furniture is an easily cleanable fabric.

If you have large windows in your living room, it’s important to keep these clean to let in as much natural light as possible. A microfibre cloth can help keep the glass clean without scratching it.

Rest of the Home

Clean light fixtures with a small feather duster or microfibre cloth. Hard to remove dust can be cleaned with a damp microfibre cloth but be sure to turn off lights first. Use a sponge to wipe down walls and baseboards throughout the whole house.
